Destiny 2’s Second Faction Rally Offers Fans a Tough Choice

Today marks the beginning of Destiny 2’s second Faction Rally, offering players the opportunity to pick a side and bring one new weapon into the game. Unlike last time, however, the decision goes a bit deeper than good looks versus good stats.

Dead Orbit is offering a nifty little grenade launcher called Truthteller. At first glance it looks to be a reshade of the existing legendary called Flash and Thunder, which is pretty underwhelming. But, if you look closer, you can see that it has a greatly increased blast radius. Coupled with the Concussion Rounds trait, which staggers enemies, this could be just the thing for pesky mobs in high-level raids.

Or it could be a dud. Most grenade launchers in Destiny 2 have been so far.

The sure bet seems to be New Monarchy’s sword, called Honor’s Edge. Swords are finicky, though. I rarely see anyone with them outside of multiplayer. Aside from the ability to see yourself in third person, there is rarely a good reason to take a melee weapon into a player-versus-environment situation. But this sword could change that, and make melee weapons more useful in player-versus-environment play.

It will obviously be very potent in the Crucible as well.

That’s because of a single trait, called En Garde. It boosts the weapon’s damage output right after switching to that weapon. Previously, it was a trait easily available to hunters who finished the game, coming standard on the legendary Quickfang given by Cayde-6. But, if New Monarchy wins this Faction Rally, anyone with enough glimmer will have access to it.

Future War Cult has a legendary fusion rifle called Timelines’ Vertex. It looks pretty great, as this faction’s gear tends to. But it’s traits aren’t nearly as useful as those found on the other two weapons.

The same rules apply for this Faction Rally. Those who pledge their allegiance to the winning faction will be able to purchase that faction’s weapon for a measly 1,000 glimmer. Members of every other faction will have to pay 50,000 glimmer. The weapons from the two losing factions not get added to the game.

The Faction Rally runs from Nov. 7-13. Fans have already found an exploit, so start grinding tokens now.
