How to Get and Farm Exotic Engrams in Destiny 2

It’s been a while since the release of Destiny 2, and each day more players finish up the story and move on to the end game content. This involves Strikes, the weekly Nightfall, the Leviathan Raid and, of course, the Crucible. These activities generally require you to increase your Power level beyond 260, which is most effectively done by decrypting Legendary and Exotic Engrams. Today, we’ll go over the ways that you can find and farm Exotic Engrams in Destiny 2.

To stand a chance of getting an Exotic Engram to drop in Destiny 2, you’re going to have to take part in the right activities. You could opt to do quests that reward exotics directly, like the quest for the Mida Multi-Tool, but even some of those require you to get at least one Exotic Engram. For instance, the Sturm Exotic Hand Cannon can’t be unlocked until you decrypt an Exotic Engram, so you need at least one.

Complete Public Events

Public Events are one way that players can try and get an Exotic Engram to drop. It’s a small chance at best, but since Public Events are so fast and easy to find now, they’re not a terrible option. They’re even better if you can trigger the Heroic version of the Public Event instead of the regular iteration. Land on your planet of choice and use your map to track and farm upcoming Public Events.

Complete the Nightfall

Perhaps the best way to get Exotic gear (not necessarily Engrams) in Destiny 2 would be the Nightfall. Just like Destiny 1, the Nightfall awards players some of the best loot in the game, which makes it a no-brainer to complete regardless of whether you’re looking to get an Exotic Engram. Complete the Nightfall once per character each week, which is as good a reason as any to run three characters in Destiny 2.

Grind the Strike Playlist

The Strikes in Destiny 2 aren’t exactly fast. In fact, they’re kind of tedious, which is a bummer. Still, they do give players a shot at getting an Exotic Engram at the conclusion of the Strike. You could grind Strikes for hours (or days) and never get one, but you’re bound to get more loot to help you reach the max Power level in Destiny 2. Word is you’ll need to land between 260 and 280 Power to handle the Leviathan Raid.

Exotic Engrams from Xur

We haven’t seen the Agent of the Nine in Destiny 2 yet, but we have a decent idea of Xur’s various locations in Destiny 2. We also haven’t seen his inventory. If it’s anything like Destiny 1, though, he’ll carry an Exotic Engram that you can purchase each week. This becomes less effective as you unlock more Exotic gear in Destiny 2, but it’s probably a fantastic idea for you to try out in the early going.

Play in the Crucible

One of the fan favorite things to do in Destiny 2 is spend some time in the Crucible. That’s a good thing if you’re interested in getting an Exotic Engram to drop. While it’s by no means common, Exotic Engrams will drop in the Crucible from time to time. If you enjoy playing the PvP portion of Destiny 2, you stand a shot at getting an Exotic Engram drop as a bonus.
